In a new, cross-disciplinary opportunity, Whittemore School Part-time MBA students can enhance their degree with a certificate in software systems engineering from the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. Two of the certificate courses may count as electives in the MBA degree.

The certificate program, which requires four courses for completion, is industry originated. Several studies at the national and state level have identified a substantial increased job demand for software engineers who are able to command the vision of a new software product and shepherd that product from concept to deployment. The program is for talented engineers who would like to transition into higher-value software systems engineering positions such as software system engineer, software architect, chief engineer, technical director, and lead system engineer.

“Engineers who are successful at this ‘big picture’ work are rare, yet the demand for these skills is high,” says Phil Hatcher, professor and chair of the computer science department at UNH. “Graduates of this certificate program will be attractive candidates for senior technical positions in the software industry in New Hampshire and beyond.”
