Part-time MBA Specializations

 

Students enrolled in the Part-time MBA program can elect to earn a specialization in one of three fields currently offered by the Whittemore School: Marketing and Supply Chain Management, Entrepreneurial Venture Creation, or Financial Management. Each specialization consists of three required electivesm, as noted below. Part-time MBA students are not required to complete a specialization, and may instead choose to take any six electives that are of interest to them. 

Marketing and Supply Chain Management

This specialization covers such topics as market research and analysis, new product and services development to production. and final delivery. It features a cross-functional approach to teach students how to manage fundamental value processes involved in production and marketing of goods and services. The specialization is unique in its integrative emphasis on meeting customer and market needs in an optimally effective and efficient manner given technological and operational constraints.

Entrepreneurial Venture Creation

This specialization is designed to promote an environment that produces an entrepreneurial culture; it promotes experiential, real-world, real-time learning. Students learn about the high-growth entrepreneurial venture process of value creation through an application of technology in a dynamic environment. The specialization is appropriate for students whose intent is to start a high-growth business, work for a new venture, become involved in new venture creation within an established organization, or are interested in the field of venture capital and other funding sources.

Financial Management

This specialization is designed for the student who wants to take a coherent set of finance courses offered within the general framework of the MBA. The study of finance provides opportunities in a wide variety of disciplines, including banking, insurance, corporate finance, investment management, and risk management. The field of finance has become popular over the last few years due, in part, to increased publication and growth of the stock and derivative markets.
