UNH business competition has come a long way
Paul J. Holloway said the University of New Hampshire business competition held in his name each year has come a long way since 1988. Back then, students offered up ideas like babysitting services, he said during the competition Wednesday. Times change.
The six business plans offered by student finalists Wednesday dealt with things that were over his head, he admitted, and all involved still-evolving Internet media, such as cloud services and GPS.
GPS-based de-icer system wins Holloway competition
A de-icer spreading system that uses GPS technology to map sensitive watersheds and allows transportation officials to apply specific de-icers on roads in environmentally sensitive areas won first place in the 2012 University of New Hampshire Whittemore School of Business and Economics Paul J. Holloway Prize Innovation-to-Market competition.

Regaalo takes college care packages online
PORTSMOUTH — A group of recent University of New Hampshire graduates is getting into the business of gift giving.
The four entrepreneurs who together make up Regaalo Inc. say they saw an opportunity to turn a common college tradition of sending care packages into a business. They are Jessica Streitmater, 23, Gretchen Eastman, 22, Matthew Robinson, 24, and Christine Dinisi, 22.

For Joe Faro '91, the future began taking shape in an entrepreneurship class during his senior year at UNH. Until then, he knew food was his passion. He grew up working in his parents' bakery in Haverhill, Mass; he had even begun creating his own handmade pasta. Like most college students, however, he had no idea where it would take him.

All USNH undergraduate and graduate students or teams of no more than four individuals with an "actual" or "potential" innovative product or service are eligible to enter the Paul J. Holloway Prize Innovation-to-Market Competition. Students working on course related technology projects are encouraged to apply.
